Feast Day: December 12th

Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to Juan Diego in Mexico in the 1530s on Tepeyac Hill near modern-day Mexico City. This is a powerful apparition of Mary and is known worldwide!

On December 9, 1531, Mary appeared to Juan Diego, a peasant, and told him to tell the bishop to build a shrine in her honor. Because of the bishop’s skepticism, on December 12th, Mary told Juan Diego to gather roses. It was wintertime, so it was crazy that they were blooming. After he picked them, he was to present them to the bishop. When Juan Diego opened his cloak (tilma) to give the bishop the roses, an image of Our Lady Of Guadalupe was imprinted on the back of his cloak. It remains there to this day, even though it should have decayed years ago.
