Feast Day: November 17th
St. Elizabeth of Hungary was born in 1207. She is well-known for her charity, humility, and dedication to the poor. She was a princess, the daughter of Kind Andrew II of Hungary. She married at a young age to Louis IV, Landgrave of Thuringia. Even though she was a royal, she devoted her life to serving the sick and poor, giving away her wealth to those who needed it.
After her husband’s early death, she became even more committed to a life of simplicity and service, joining the Third Order of St. Francis. Elizabeth founded a hospital in Marburg, Germany, personally caring for the sick there. She died at 24 years old in 1231 and was canonized in 1235.
Elizabeth is the patron of hospitals, widows, the poor, and nurses.
